It is with deep sadness that the Palm Foundation bids farewell to Itai Mushekwe, recipient of the 2008 Johann Philipp Palm Prize. It has now been announced that Itai Mushekwe passed away in the spring of 2025. His commitment to free media, journalism in the diaspora and his role as a motivator and mentor will never be forgotten. We express our deepest thoughts to his family, colleagues and friends.
Itai Mushekwe was awarded the Palm Prize in 2008 for his investigative articles on mismanagement and inhumane policies in Zimbabwe. Despite great dangers, he remained an unyielding critic.
